Rio Grande is one of New Mexico's premier trout fisheries, located in the Northern New Mexico region. The river is well known for producing quality Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout, drawing anglers from across the country throughout the season.

Best Time to Fish Rio Grande

Fishing on Rio Grande varies significantly by season. Spring runoff typically peaks between April and June, with conditions improving as flows stabilize. Summer offers excellent dry fly opportunities during morning and evening hours. Fall is prime time for larger fish as brown trout move into spawning mode. Winter fishing can be exceptional during midday midge hatches.

Species

Rio Grande supports healthy populations of Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout. The river's diverse habitat โ€” from fast riffles to deep pools โ€” provides year-round holding water for trout of all sizes.
