Big Sky Canyon
The Gallatin Canyon through Big Sky is classic Montana trout water with excellent wild rainbow and brown trout in a spectacular mountain setting. Attractor dry flies work surprisingly well here on fish that haven't seen as many patterns as Yellowstone Park fish. Afternoon stonefly hatches in late June and July are legendary.

Storm Castle
The Storm Castle area on the upper Gallatin is one of the premier wading stretches on the river with good public access and consistent trout populations. Wild rainbows averaging 12-16 inches respond well to both nymphs and dry flies. The canyon narrows here creating ideal pocket water.
💧 Ideal flow: 150–500 CFS. The roadside canyon section along Highway 191 fishes well at moderate flows with easy access.

Near the Greek Creek campground the Gallatin flows through an open meadow section with excellent evening dry fly fishing. Brown trout move into shallow riffles during PMD and caddis hatches from July through August. This section is more forgiving than the canyon stretches above.
