Glenwood Canyon

This is primarily float water, with wading access at the Roaring Fork confluence and Dino boat ramp above and below South Canyon rapid. Gore Canyon to Dotsero
The Colorado from Gore Canyon downstream to the Eagle River confluence at Dotsero is one of the longest and most productive float fishing corridors in the state. Wild brown trout concentrate in deep pools and along undercut canyon walls through this remote stretch. The Eagle River confluence near Dotsero adds volume and nutrients, creating exceptional holding water for large browns and rainbows. Streamer fishing is most productive in fall as big browns move aggressively before spawn.

Parshall Section
The Colorado River near Parshall is Gold Medal designated water flowing through wide meadows and cottonwood-lined banks below the Williams Fork confluence. Wild brown and rainbow trout up to 20 inches occupy deep runs, gentle riffles, and long glides in this productive Grand County fishery. The Williams Fork tailwater influence keeps flows stable and water cool year-round, making Parshall one of the most consistent sections on the upper Colorado. Public access is excellent through Kemp-Breeze State Wildlife Area and the Sunset access point, both managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
💧 Ideal flow: 200-600 CFS. Parshall fishes well across a broad range, with 275-400 CFS being ideal for wading. The Williams Fork tailwater stabilizes flows and keeps this section productive even during low water periods.

Pumphouse
The Pumphouse Recreation Area is the gateway to some of the finest trout fishing on the upper Colorado, with miles of wade access both upstream into the edge of Gore Canyon and downstream through wide meadow bends and braided channels. Brown and rainbow trout hold in undercut banks, riffles, and deep pools throughout this stretch. The Pumphouse to State Bridge float is one of the most popular multi-day fishing trips in Colorado, covering miles of productive BLM water through spectacular canyon scenery.
💧 Ideal flow: 500-2,000 CFS. Ideal wading flows are 500-800 CFS. Float fishing is best from 800-2,000 CFS. Below 500 CFS some sections get shallow and rocky. Above 2,000 CFS floating becomes more technical through the canyon sections.

State Bridge
The Colorado at State Bridge flows through open ranch country with excellent wade and float fishing for wild brown trout. This section sees less pressure than the canyon water upstream and downstream, with long riffles, sweeping bends, and productive undercut banks that hold fish throughout the season. State Bridge is the takeout for the popular Pumphouse to State Bridge float, and the put-in for floats continuing downstream toward Dotsero. Fall streamer fishing here is exceptional as large browns move to spawn.
💧 Ideal flow: 600-2,000 CFS. State Bridge fishes well across a wide range. Wading is productive below 1,000 CFS. Float fishing covers the most water and is preferred above 1,000 CFS through the longer ranch country bends.
