Anson Labs, LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates troutbible.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and services.
Short version: We don't sell your data. We use first-party analytics to understand how the site is used. We don't require you to create an account. TroutBible displays no ads and has no paid sponsorships. Your fishing report queries are processed to generate responses and are not stored permanently.
1. Information We Collect
We collect minimal information to operate the service:
- First-party analytics — we use our own analytics system to collect anonymous usage data including page views, feature interactions, gauge clicks, and session activity. This data is collected using anonymous session identifiers that reset when your browser closes and cannot be used to identify you personally. Analytics data is stored in our own database and is never shared or sold.
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, device type (mobile or desktop), and referral source. No personally identifiable information is collected.
- River and report queries — when you generate a fishing report or request river data, we process your selected state and river to generate a response. These queries may be cached server-side for up to 24 hours to reduce costs and improve performance.
- Log data — standard web server logs including IP address, browser, and pages visited. Retained for up to 30 days for security purposes.
We do not collect: names, email addresses, payment information, or any account credentials. No account is required to use TroutBible.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the TroutBible service
- To generate conditions reports based on your selected state and river (reports are AI-assisted)
- To analyze site usage and improve performance
- To detect and prevent abuse or security issues
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics — we use Google Analytics to collect anonymous website traffic and usage data. Google Privacy Policy
- Analytics data — anonymous analytics data is stored securely in our own database and is never shared or sold.
- USGS Water Services — river gauge data is fetched from the US Geological Survey public API. No personal data is sent to USGS.
- Colorado DWR — select Colorado gauge data is fetched from the Colorado Division of Water Resources public API. No personal data is sent to DWR.
- Anthropic — conditions reports are generated with AI assistance via the Anthropic API. Queries are subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Netlify — TroutBible is hosted on Netlify. Standard server logs may be collected per Netlify's Privacy Policy.
TroutBible does not use Google AdSense, Amazon Associates, or any advertising or affiliate tracking services.
4. Cookies
TroutBible uses minimal cookies and browser storage:
- Session identifier — an anonymous session ID stored in sessionStorage that resets when your browser tab closes. Used only for internal analytics and cannot identify you personally.
- Preferences — local storage may be used to remember site preferences. No personal data is stored.
TroutBible does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.
5. Data Retention
Cached fishing reports are stored server-side for up to 24 hours then automatically deleted. Anonymous analytics events are retained in our database for internal analysis. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. No personally identifiable information is retained.
6. Children's Privacy
Trout Bible is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. Since we collect minimal personal data, most requests can be fulfilled quickly.
California residents may have additional rights under CCPA. EU/UK residents may have additional rights under GDPR.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Trout Bible after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
